LESSONS from ITALY

To celebrate some relationship milestones, my wife Alisha and I set off on a three-week journey through Italy and found it to be a country where every corner holds a story and every view feels like a masterpiece. From the winding cobblestone roads and iconic landmarks to the breathtaking, sunlit landscapes, the places we explored didn’t just leave us with memories; every one of them seemed to inspire a story - a life lesson - as well. This blog page reflects the experiences that moved me the most. I hope you enjoy my Lessons From Italy!

I Had One Request

While we were on this incredible trip with friends, every day was packed with new sights, good food, and the kind of laughter that only happens when you travel with people you enjoy. The adventure was very much a group effort. But right in the middle of it, I wanted one small personal moment. I…

Let Something Else Lead

We went horseback riding through the Tuscan countryside during our trip. Rolling hills, old stone villas in the distance, and a horse that was definitely smarter than I am when it comes to choosing a path. I kept trying to steer, but the more I relaxed, the better the entire ride became. It reminded me…

The Gondola Tilt

Gondolas are designed to tilt. They are not symmetrical, they’re not perfectly balanced, and they’re not trying to be. That tilt is intentional. Without it, the pilot would lose control, and the boat would become unstable. Here is the part most people miss: The tilt is what makes the gondola work. And honestly, that is…

Just Put Your Phone Down

We love taking pictures to remember our trips (and as you can see, we’re pretty good at it). But one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life will never be on camera. The Sistine Chapel. No photos. No videos. Just stillness. And I’m so grateful for that. Standing beneath Michelangelo’s masterpiece, I felt completely…

History Repeats Itself

I will admit it. When I first saw those tiny wine windows in Florence, I rolled my eyes. I figured they were just tourist traps. The kind of thing groups of American women sprint toward so they can get the perfect Instagram shot. And yes, Alisha was already halfway to the window before I even…

Getting Lost

Venice has a way of reminding you who is actually in control. You can plan all you want, but the moment you start walking, the city laughs at your confidence. Streets twist, signs disappear, GPS shrugs its shoulders, and before you know it, you are wandering through alleys you never meant to find. And strangely,…

Facing the Fear at 1935 Feet

My wife is tough. Anyone who knows her understands that. But heights are not her thing. Put her on solid ground, and she is unstoppable. Put her in a tiny chair suspended over open air, climbing almost 2000 feet above the ocean on Monte Solaro, and it gets real for her. So when we reached…

David is Huge – and Very Naked…

Nothing prepares you for seeing David in person. You walk in expecting a nice statue, maybe a classy moment, and instead you are greeted by an enormous, fully exposed marble superstar standing there like he owns the place. David is huge. And he is very, very naked. No shame. No towel. No attempt at modesty.…

Ancient Roads

Walking on these ancient Roman roads just outside the Colosseum stopped me in my tracks. Each massive stone was placed by hand over 2,000 years ago, and yet they’re still here-worn and uneven, yes, but still standing and full of stories. I couldn’t help but think about how my feet were touching the same stones…
